Position Description

Job Title: Clinical Research Nurse

Location: ONSITE - Orlando, FL

Schedule: 30-40 hours a week, M-F daytime hours

Department: Clinical Research

Reports to: Clinical Research Manager / Principal Investigator

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Clinical Research Nurse with expertise in infusion therapy to join our clinical research team. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in supporting clinical trials by providing high-quality nursing care, managing patient infusions, and ensuring the safe and efficient execution of clinical research protocols. The Clinical Research Nurse will collaborate closely with investigators, coordinators, and other healthcare professionals to deliver exceptional care while ensuring adherence to regulatory and ethical standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Infusion Therapy Administration:

  • Administer investigational drugs and IV infusions to clinical trial participants in accordance with study protocols.
  • Monitor patients throughout the infusion process, observing for any adverse reactions and providing appropriate interventions as needed.
  • Ensure proper preparation, handling, and disposal of infusion materials in compliance with safety and regulatory guidelines.

Clinical Research Support:

  • Assist with patient enrollment, screening, and informed consent process in alignment with the study's protocol.
  • Perform clinical assessments, including vital signs, laboratory tests, and assessments of physical and psychological status.
  • Document patient responses, infusion progress, and other clinical data accurately in the clinical trial records.
  • Work with the clinical research team to monitor patient progress, adverse events, and other trial-specific metrics.

Patient Education and Support:

  • Educate patients and their families about study procedures, medication administration, potential side effects, and the importance of compliance.
  • Provide emotional support and address patient concerns regarding infusion therapies or study participation.

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Ensure that clinical practices adhere to Good Clinical Practice (GCP), IRB guidelines, and regulatory standards.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of infusion safety protocols, clinical trial regulations, and ethical considerations in human subject research.

Collaboration & Communication:

  • Work closely with the clinical research team to ensure smooth operations of clinical trials.
  • Communicate effectively with investigators, coordinators, pharmacists, and other healthcare providers.

Quality Assurance:

  • Participate in audits and reviews of clinical research records to ensure compliance with protocols, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Report adverse events, infusion-related complications, and any protocol deviations in a timely manner.

Qualifications:

Education & Certifications:

  • Registered Nurse (RN) with an active, unencumbered FL license.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Certification in Infusion Therapy (e.g., CRNI, IV Therapy Certification) is highly desirable.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certifications preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in a hospital, outpatient, or clinical research setting.
  • Experience with infusion therapies (IV, subcutaneous, or biologic infusions) is essential.
  • Prior experience in clinical research or knowledge of GCP guidelines is a plus.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of clinical research practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent clinical skills with the ability to assess, monitor, and manage infusion-related complications.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with patients, families, and the research team.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to perform tasks that require physical stamina, including standing, walking, and lifting up to [specify weight] pounds.
  • Comfort with performing procedures such as venipuncture, administering infusions, and handling medical equipment.

Work Environment:

  • Clinical research settings, which may include hospitals, outpatient clinics, or other medical facilities.
  • Exposure to clinical trial-related equipment and chemicals.
